Decorative Art Journaling - Mixed Media Art Series

Bring your own journal - or start fresh - as we decorate pages with paint, ink, markers, colored pencils, stencils, and recycled materials. We’ll explore mixed media techniques to blend imagery and text to make beautiful art journal spreads. This practice not only enhances creativity and mindfulness, but also supports personal growth and emotional resilience, making it a powerful tool for self-expression and discovery.  And it’s just plain fun!

All levels of experience with art making are encouraged to attend.   Children ages 10+ are welcome with a parent present.

Exploring Collage and Art Journaling, is a 4-part mixed media art series exploring traditional and unconventional collage and book making techniques. Classes are hosted by local artist Joanne George at the Craftsbury Public Library every Saturday in April. Join for all 4 sessions, or just the ones that interest you most. Whether you are a mixed media beginner or a seasoned artist, this series will inspire you to try new materials, learn new techniques, and connect with fellow artists!

About the Instructor

Joanne George of Glover is an emerging mixed media teaching artist. She has been offering group and individual art lessons to adults and children for the past two years. Sharing her love of art making with others brings her great joy.

Elements of Joy Spring Festival - WonderKids Afterschool

The whole community is invited to join us for the Elements of Joy festival to celebrate the end of the WonderKids Afterschool spring session! It will be an afternoon of merriment with tacos, live music, circus performances, and the unveiling of a sculpture project students have been working on in collaborating with local glass and iron workers.

Learn how to create simple hand-bound books for sketching, art journaling, and all manners of creative writing and artistic play. Art journaling blends visual art with self reflection, serving as a space to explore your thoughts, emotions, and ideas while experimenting with new techniques and materials. Finish the class with a handmade journal ready to fill!

Collage Creations - Mixed Media Art Series

Discover the vibrant and exciting medium of collage as a tool for self-expression.  We’ll layer imagery, color, texture and text to make colorful landscapes, floral patterns, and abstract collages using colorful papers and other materials. Bring your own ephemera - old photos, books, magazines, or other treasures - or use the materials we’ll provide.

Making Collage Papers - Mixed Media Art Series

When: Saturday, 4/5, 11 - 12:30pm

Where: Craftsbury Public Library

Create beautifully decorated papers using ink, paint, mark making, mono printing and stamping tools. We’ll experiment with a variety of surfaces including brown bags, copy paper, tissue paper, watercolor paper and recycled materials.  These beautiful papers are perfect for collaging, book binding, gift wrapping, card making, and more. In the following class session we will incorporate these papers into finished collages.

All levels of experience with art making are encouraged to attend.   Children ages 10+ are welcome with a parent present.

Reading with author Ann Dávila Cardinal

Join us for a reading with award-winning author Ann Dávila Cardinal. Ann is a Nuyorican, Vermont-based author with an MFA in Writing from Vermont College of Fine Arts (VCFA). She comes from a long line of Puerto Rican writers, including father and son poets Virgilio and José Antonio Dávila, and her cousin, award-winning fiction writer Tere Dávila. 

Ann has published numerous adult and young adult novels including Five Midnights, Category Five, Breakup From Hell, The Storyteller’s Death and We Need No Wings. Ann co-wrote Hispanic Star: Bad Bunny with activist Claudia Romo Edelman, which was published in 2024. Her next YA novel, a horror comedy titled You’ve Awoken Her, will be coming on June 17, 2025. Ann lives in Vermont with her husband in a lovely little house with a massively creepy basement.

Participants will gather inspiration from their experiences to learn to write and tell a brilliant brief story.
