Family Portal

Welcome! Our Outdoor Adventure summer enrichment program has wrapped up for this year, but there is still something families can do. If your child attended camp, please fill out the Parent/Child survey to tell us what you thought about camp this year. Thank you for being a part of our summer family.

That’s a Wrap!

Friday, August 9 we said our goodbye to all our campers and counselors. Now the tent has been taken down and the dorm where we had our offices is all cleaned. We’ve inventoried and packed up all our supplies and stored our equipment for next year, and our WonderKids Summer Enrichment Camp 2024 is in the books.

As we reflect on our camp experience, we feel an overwhelming sense of gratitude to everyone who impacted our camp in big and small ways.

To Sterling College who partnered with us to make a beautiful space and garden for our camp to enjoy

To OSSU Food Service who kept us fed

To Wildcat Busing for transporting us daily

To the GUCC Pleasant’s Fund and Aquatic Connection for providing swimming lessons

To our fabulous staff—coordinators, counselors, jr. counselors, and experts—who worked tirelessly to make each day special

To parent for trusting us with your children

To campers—for being such imaginative, creative, unique humans

THANK YOU!

Wonderkids adventure camp

Location

Birch House, 230 Dustan Rd, Craftsbury Common, VT 05827

This address is the residence hall at Sterling College that we will be operating out of. Our program will be centered here, but we will be spending lots of time in the surrounding fields and woods, as well as Dustan Field and Craftsbury Academy. We will also be taking various walking field trips, going to Caspian Lake for swimming lessons on Week 4.

Monday through Friday,

July 8th-August 9th

from 8:30am to 3:00pm

Program Dates/Times:

  • We are located at Birch House, 230 Dustan Rd, Craftsbury Common, VT 05387

Drop off is 8:30am-9:00am at the Dustan Field parking lot. Please make sure you arrive within that window. If your child(ren) does not need breakfast, there is no need to arrive before 8:45 as no camp activities will start until 9:00.

  • Pick-up is at 3:00pm at the Dustan Field parking lot. It is important that you pick your child up on time each day. Please respect our staff’s time and make arrangements to pick up your child promptly.

  • If you need to pick your child up from camp early or drop them off late for any reason, please let us know in advance. We have field trips and activities that are time-sensitive and we don’t want your child to miss out on any of them.

We ask that you park in the Dustan Field parking lot. Our Site Coordinator, Bea Blacke, will be waiting to welcome your child and usher them to our site, or retrieve your child(ren) for you at the end of the day. Remember, only adults on the approved list you filled out during registration can pick up your child. If you need to add an adult to that list, please contact us as soon as possible.

Food

Prepared to be Outside Rain or Shine:

We want your kids to experience a great summer, and that means spending a lot of time outside, rather than in the school building. Please send your child appropriately dressed to be outside. The camp will remain outside on rainy days, unless there is lightning or other extreme weather like heat indexes or dangerous air quality, in which case, we will be inside until the coast is clear. Our rule is if we can hear thunder, even if far away, we will go inside.

Checklist

  • To have the best camp experience possible, we have a list of items we recommend your child bring with them, some items that you may want them to bring, and some things that are not allowed at all.

    Please send your child with:

    • Extra layers/rain gear (Vermont weather is hard to predict sometimes and we plan to be outside as much as possible.)

    • Bathing suit and towel for beach and water days

    • Good shoes for playing and hiking outside (flip flops NOT recommended)

    • A hat for sun protection

    • A rain jacket and/or rubber boots

    • A water bottle

These things are optional, but might make camp more enjoyable:

    • Insect repellant (non-aerosol)

    • Water shoes (for beach days)

    • Sun screen

    • Healthy snack (we will provide a snack but they can bring their own if wanted)

    • Cell phone/Blackberry, etc. (If you need your child to have a cell phone for communication outside of camp hours, it must be given to staff upon arrival to put in a safe place while camp is in session.)

    • Firearms/ammunition

    • Hatchet/axes/knives

    • Tobacco: smoke/smokeless/vaporizers

    • Alcohol

    • Illegal drugs/marijuana

    • Electronics (ex. I-pods, radios, hand-held devices)

    • Medications

    • Candy

Label What You Pack:

Please label all backpacks and items you send to camp with your child’s name or initials on them so things don't get lost. Especially items like sunscreen and water bottles should be labeled so there aren’t any mix-ups.

  • If your child requires an inhaler or epi-pen, you will need to supply them for camp.

If you have any questions or concerns about your child’s medical needs, or if you indicated on their health and safety form that they require an epi-pen, inhaler, or other prescription, please contact our Health and Safety Coordinator, Hannah Cochran at hcochran@ruralartsvt.org.

In order to administer medication, WonderKids requires a signed prescription information form from the provider.

  • WonderKids will not be supplying over-the-counter pain management medications to campers. If you feel that your child will require an over-the-counter pain medication during camp for any reason, please contact our Health and Safety Coordinator, Hannah Cochran at hcochran@ruralartsvt.org.

  • In the event that a child becomes injured or sick at camp, the camp Health and Safety Coordinator and the Administrative Coordinator will communicate with the affected child’s parent/guardian to determine if the child will need to be sent home.

Campers with fever, repeated vomiting, repeated episodes of diarrhea, or any other symptoms or injuries which prevent them from fully participating in their camp day will be sent home to rest and recover.

If your child is displaying any of the above symptoms before coming to camp, please keep your child at home so that we can ensure the health and safety of all of our campers and staff.
