An introduction to “What is relief printing?” How do you start? What methods exist? What tools and materials best match your goals?  Students will be introduced to a variety of relief printmaking techniques, including collagraphy, rubbings, and Linoleum Matrixes. Interested in taking these skills home to print without a press? We’ll explore spoons printing and talk about inking methodology (with an emphasis on which inks as friendly to home use and clean-up). This is a great opportunity to develop a new skill, meet new community members

All materials are included in the cost of the class and students will also have access to open studio hours in our pop-up printmaking studio outside of class time.

Lulu Wootton was introduced to printmaking in 2012. Since then, she has immersed herself in various methods of printmaking, including relief printing, Kitchen Lithography, Drypoint and Chine Colle. Lulu is drawn to accessible methods of printing that can be successful in small home-based settings.

Lulu is a graduate of both Marlboro College, BA and of Antioch New England, MS. Her studies at the Montserrat College of Art and at Highlands New Mexico University (2013-2015) influenced and aided her development of a free-style form of relief carving.

In 2016, Lulu retired from her career in social science work for the University of Chicago and has since concentrated on putting to paper and canvas, “With paint, pencil, ink, and carvings - my impressions of this earth we live on.” Lulu continues her studio practice in her Craftsbury Common Studio.
