The Artist
Michael Patoine
Michael Patoine was born in 1951 and grew up in Danville, Vermont. He worked as a logger until being called for armed service during the Vietnam war. After being severely injured in an auto accident in St. Johnsbury in 1974, Michael became a long-term resident of the St. Johnsbury Health and Rehabilitation Center. Michael started painting at the GRACE workshop in 1976, and he likens his painting to the making of quilts or rugs, for which his grandmother and other relatives were well known. Michael is also known for experimenting with mixed media.
