Join local sculptor Wolf Whitney for a three-week series that will explore a variety of different sculptural techniques, including reductive soapstone carving and additive ceramic sculpting. This class will include a brief history of stone carving and how animals have been depicted in different sculptural mediums. Students will be encouraged to wear a mask or face covering, such as a bandana, as stone dust is potentially hazardous if inhaled for extended periods of time.
Artist Bio: Wolf Whitney (she/her) is a multi-disciplinary contemporary artist and sculptor. Her work focuses heavily on the influences of ritual and the natural world.
After leaving active duty in the U.S. Army she moved to Vermont to pursue a simple life. Little did she know that this move would inspire her to start creating art. Surrounded by rolling fields and granite mountains, Wolf became enamored with the idea of creating by destroying. The duality of creation and her twin destruction. Sculpture in any material is simply the removal of pieces of raw material to recreate something beautiful. This is also true of her wood-burning art, using fire and heat to draw on wood.
Always looking for new means of expression Wolf is always available to chat with you about the art you want within your space.
