Teen Design Challenge
Deadline: Friday, October 6 @ 4 PM
For teens 13 - 18
We invite area teens to submit their ideas for surface designs to be applied to the tournament set of cornhole boards at Rural Arts Collaborative!
Youth ages 13 - 18 can create a design according to the guidelines below for a chance to put their winning design on a set of cornhole boards.
This challenge is presented as part of the Teen Makers Club that we are forming at Spark.
Design Challenge Guidelines
The challenge is to create a design to be painted or appliquéd onto the surface of a corhole set (two boards). All materials are acceptable, as long as the surface doesn’t interfere with the game. The two boards do not have to be identical, but should work well together as a pair set.
The design should inspire the cornhole players and onlookers to explore a new dimension or perspective by promoting a sense of place in time, geography, society. Through their designs, teens can answer the questions:
As the artist, where do you see your community in the future?
How can you portray your hopes or vision for the future of your community on a cornhole board?
This could be the future of a physical location, a new state of mind, or a new way of being. Designs can be representational or abstract.
Design Specifications
The design should be 47.25 inches x 23.5 inches, and account for the hole in the board. Designers can use this template to create their design
The finished surface has to be totally flat, waterproof, and permanent
All materials can be used (collage, stickers, etc.) as long as they can be sourced locally and the budget for creating the design does not exceed $100
The design should not wrap around the side of the board, it must be applied to the surface only
Designs must be school appropriate, without profanity or derogatory or obsene symbols or images
Designs should not represent an identifiable brand, business, or person
Designs should be inclusive
The design must be simple enough that, if the design is selected by Rural Arts Collaborative, the teen artist can complete it in one week on the surface of the cornhole board
Criteria for selection
Up to four designs will be selected to be applied to the boards. We will choose designs based on the following criteria:
The winning designs Surface does not interfere with the mechanism of the game (smooth surface, waterproof, etc.)
The design itself reflects the intention of the theme, as described above
Both the design and the plan for execution are reasonable
Can be completed within one week
